Kentyucky Fried Chicken??

Before you are amused or irritated with the title above, I would like to let you know that the title is not ridiculing the video nor it acts as a cynicism. On the other hand, I value this video and in connection with the holy month of Ramadan (though this video is not intended to be “Islamic”) I strongly suggest that you must see this  deeply moving documentary video, so you can appreciate each grain of the rice you spoon into the mouth and each bit of your chicken you bite every day and never mistake your food for ever abundant manna from heaven that you think you can waste your food with abandon.

Actually I don’t detest the globalisation insinuated by this video, but our habit which is inclined to waste the food by producing a large amount of scraps on eating our meals that disgusts me as though we have never appreciated the food we live off, though I’m not sure either whether or not they even thank us for leaving the scraps that nourish them, the scraps which are luxurious for them, seems the only way they taste the “luxury”. Whatever it is, on seeing this short flick honestly I could not choke back the tears in my eyes…

  1. Hi Yari,
    Very interesting post which is suitable for those who are fasting in the month of Ramadhan.
    We tend to take for granted food and water as if they should always be there for us to consume so throwing away some of them would not mean anything.
    The saddest thing is that we would rather be stingy when it comes to sharing them with those who need them most.

  2. I quote a short article from the blog of LOVE FOOD…
    Love Food Hate Waste is the ‘Waste Not Want Not’ of the modern day, providing handy tips, advice and recipes for leftovers to help everyone waste less food..8.3 million tonnes of food is thrown away by households in the UK every year.Reducing food waste is a major issue and not just about good food going to waste; wasting food costs the average family with children £680 a year and has serious environmental implications too. What about in Indonesia? We often see for a certain people strata also behave the same. Therefor there are several ways to stop wasting food such as eat out less,shop more often but buy less,and don’t go shoping on an empty stomach hehehe…”makanlah ketika kita lapar dan berhentilah makan sebelum kenyang” (islamiic advice)…

    Yes Harry, we must not be stingy and start to learn how to share with the needy. But I’d rather be moderately generous. it is to prevent me from spoiling them if we are overly generous. If you give someone an inch he’ll tend to take a mile from you. But there is nothing wrong being overly generous but it’d be better if they don’t know you as the one who is very generous and let only Allah reward you for the best things you have done for the poor.

    @Sjafri Mangkuprawira

    Yes, prof. I remember it very well the Islamic adage, it is beautiful isn’t it? But I don’t agree to some extent on the remark “….and don’t go shopping on an empty stomach”. It is because if we go shopping on half empty stomach we will lean more towards wasting the food. On the contrary If we are hungry and the stomach is empty, it will be able to hold the food more so we can eat up the food to the last bit. Hehehe…

  4. This video has touched my heart, really.

  5. salam kenal pak yari
    videonya mana pak?

  6. i remember when i was in Vietnam, even they’re poor but they like to waste the food that they’d consumed. they’re poor but if only rice, everybody still can afford it. raskin program should kept on to avoid that things happen.

  7. saya setuju dng komen bang boyin di atas. saya jg sering melihat org miskin jg menyisakan makanan baik nasi, mi baso dll biasanya dng alasan kenyang. menyedihkan bukan org kaya aja yg menyisakan makanan.
